Roversport racing are based in North Lincolnshire, not far from Cadwell Park race circuit and in 2007 we raced our group N Rover 216GTi in the CTCRC TOYO TIRES pre93 saloon car championship. Having raced the car in national championships for 2 seasons we were hopeful of some success in this very competitive series.

Our first race of 2007 was a very wet Mallory Park and we qualified the Rover well, starting in a promising position for a class win. In terrential rain some of the cars retired after lap 1, but Colin fought through the rain and standing water to finish 3rd.

Next was the very fast Castle Combe circuit in Wiltshire. Frighteningly fast, with some chicanes to slow the cars slightly.. Again Colin made a brilliant start in dry conditions but his second place was short lived when he ran very wide onto the grass exiting a chicane and lost 5 places to the hard charging BMWs in his class. Watch some of the action below keep an eye for the Yellow 216GTi

Up north next for two races at the fantastic Croft circuit and Colin managed a very close second in class to the quick BMW of Andrew Partridge in race one. In race 2 the tables were turned however and after many place changes Colin beat Andrew by less than a second to secure our first class win of the year. Andrew went on to win the SELOC production BMW title and gain 4th place in the Autosport magazine top 10 club racers of 2007.

Next was a non CTCRC pre93 outing at Cadwell Park, where at our local circuit the Rover easilly beat all the class runners in both races to win the TOYO TIRES trophy. The biggest cup we have ever won!

On a high we entered the next round at Snetterton looking for a second win at this, one of our favorite tracks and also a very quick circuit. Colin started well and led into the first corner but was slowed by a wayward Chevvy Camaro and eventually gave best to Carl Bennetts Honda Civic VTEC.

Both were battling furiously behind a Rover SD1 V8 and Carl found a way past with Colin hoping to repeat his move on the next lap. After a quick exit from Coram corner Colin drew alongside the SD1 but the door was firmly closed leaving Colin nowhere to go and the resulting collision caused our first retirement of the year with damage to the cars electrics and bodywork.

Major repairs were needed before the next race, at Donington Park and with no time to test the car the handling was assessed on the first lap of practice! All was well and Colin placed the 216GTi second in qualifying behind the Honda Civic. And after a race long battle with Alan Daffins Capri 3000GT again finished second to Carl, who was looking unbeatable in class E.

Oulton Park in Cheshire for the final round and after a fraught weekend with tow car dramas we were pleased to qualify at all, so 4th was deemed to be ok, but to secure second in class in the final standings we had to finish at laest 3rd on the road. This must have been Colins worst ever race start and with far to much wheelspin followed by allowing the revs to drop " off the cam" into second gear the Rover was engulfed by the pack behind. Colin battled through a fraught few laps and finished a creditable 3rd and second in class to Carls Honda in the final standings.
